However, if you require assistance while using this area our Rangers are contactable via 07860 308081 from 08:00 – 18:30 March – September and 08:00 – 16:00 October – February. There are no designated accessible parking spaces next to the Woodlands Sports Pitches and associated facilities. There is a parking space at the end of the tarmac footpath that connects to the sports facilities. There is space for vehicle drop off or collection alongside the tarmac path near to the sports facilities. Getting around Woodlands Sports Pitches Expand Path gradients and surfacesWoodlands Sports Pitches is an area of closely mown grass adjacent to the tarmac car park. Temporary buildings containing the sports facilities are located on a tarmac area next to the car park which is connected to the parking area by a tarmac path. There are no other footpaths.For more details of the accessibility of any area of Woodlands Sports Pitches please contact us. Facilities and services at Woodlands Sports Pitches Expand Toilets and changing facilitiesThe sports facilities are made up of a series of temporary buildings which includes two team changing rooms (communal room with benches and coat hooks) and separate male and female toilet and shower buildings. These all have stepped access. An accessible toilet is located in the office cabin which has ramped access. Please note these facilities are not open to the general public. Food & drinkBBQ’s and fires are not permitted at Woodlands Sports Pitches.The village of Castor is home to cafés and pubs. For more information visit our Where to eat pages. Level 3 Certificate - Leading Forest School Expand This Forest School Leader training is designed for those who would like to set up and run a forest school programme. The course involves eight days of training, including theory and practical sessions. Level 2 Award - Curriculum Based Outdoor Learning Expand This Curriculum Based Outdoor Learning course will develop your skills and confidence in using your grounds for engaging and exciting curriculum delivery. Completion of this course only takes two and a half days plus some structured self-directed study in between the course days. It is designed to be as practical, accessible and supportive as possible in helping you to make a success in implementing a programme of curriculum-based outdoor learning. Content Summary: Understanding the benefits and risks of using the outdoors as a learning environment, looking at the background and context of modern outdoor learning. Learning how to take an holistic approach to implement outdoor learning and how to get everyone ‘on board’ with your plans. Planning and delivering seasonal outdoor learning by building specific skills and confidence in a range of areas that can be developed and enhanced in school grounds and in the local environment. Knowing how to sustainably manage and improve outdoor learning environments. Looking at ecological structures in the natural environment and identifying species in our own local natural environments. Hiring a mobility scooter or Mountain Trike Expand To help visitors with access needs explore Ferry Meadows, we offer a mobility scooter hire service from the Visitor Centre & Gift Shop in Ferry Meadows, free of charge (donations welcome). In addition to our three mobility scooters, we also have two new Mountain Trike all-terrain wheelchairs available to hire. To find out more about the Mountain Trikes please see below. Step by step guide to borrowing a Mountain Trike or mobility scooter: It is advisable to book a time slot in advance to ensure that your chosen Mountain Trike or mobility scooter is available for when you want to use it. Please call Visitor Services on 01733 234193 or email [email protected] to reserve your chosen date and time. Visitors can use a Mountain Trike or mobility scooter for up to 2 hours from 9.15am - 5.30pm every day April – October and 9.15am – 4:00pm every day except Christmas Day November – March. Come to the Visitor Centre in Ferry Meadows and show your ID to borrow a Mountain Trike. Our friendly Visitor Centre staff will get your Mountain Trike or mobility scooter ready for you. If it is your first time using one, you will be given a full induction on how to operate the vehicle. For the self-propelled Mountain Trike please be aware that the steering and braking is right hand controlled and that it is advisable to wear a bicycle helmet. Please bring your own. When you have finished with your Mountain Trike or mobility scooter, please return it to the Visitor Centre and come inside and let our staff know. Please make a donation for using this service. The all-terrain wheelchairs have been provided to Ferry Meadows through a generous donation and will sit alongside the extremely popular mobility scooter loan service the Park already offers. This service is made possible through continued donations from users and supporters, alongside other fundraising efforts. Thank you! Mountain Trikes are all-terrain manual wheelchairs. Visitors can choose between: The Mountain Trike, lever drive all terrain wheelchair which allows the user to independently propel, steer and apply the hydraulic brakes whilst maintaining clean, dry hands The MT Push all terrain attendant wheelchair which has a push handle located behind the rider where the steering and braking takes place by the rider’s buddy. This is suited for riders who aren’t able to self-propel but still want to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. Please note that all riders must be able to self-transfer into and out of the trikes and the maximum rider weight is 100kg / 16 stone.
Accessibility welcome to Longthorpe Tower Expand All visits to Longthorpe Tower must be booked in advance and there is an admission fee for anyone who is not an English Heritage member. Details of admission charges and booking can be found on our Events Page on the Nene Park website. If you have any problems booking online or you have carer who needs to visit the Tower to support you, please call Visitor Services on 01733 234193. Volunteer Guides will welcome all pre-booked visitors to the Tower.
