Starting Saturday 20 July, we have an exciting line-up of activities and events running daily throughout the summer holidays. Packed full of outdoor adventures, family activities, wildlife workshops and holiday clubs - there's something for everyone to enjoy this summer.

Summer-long Activities

Pay & Play at Nene Outdoors: Make a splash with our full range of Pay and Play activities on Gunwade Lake, with activities available between 11am and 6.30pm each day. Daily watersports activities include dragon and swan pedalos, row boats, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and canoes. Book your activities online to avoid the queues on busy days!

Nene Outdoors Olympic Challenge: Celebrate a summer of sport at Nene Outdoors and join in our Olympic Challenge! Complete five different land or water activities throughout the Six Weeks of Summer for your chance to win an exclusive sailing or paddlesport taster session for six. Click here to find out more.

Holiday Club at Nene Outdoors: Our Oak Adventurers holiday club for kids age 8-13 is packed full of exciting water and land-based activities. From kayaking and paddleboarding to climbing and bushcraft, there's something for every young adventurer to enjoy! Available every weekday in the summer holidays, starting on Monday 22 July (excluding the bank holiday). It’s £43 a day or book a full week and save 20%! Click here to book your places.

Take a boat trip: Take a cruise in our new eco passenger boat and enjoy unique views of the lake and wildlife around Ferry Meadows. Boat trips run daily during school holidays. Under 3s go free and well behaved dogs are welcome. Book your tickets now. Don't miss our specially extended Wildlife Boat Trips running on selected days during the summer!

Camp under the stars: Upgrade your day out at Ferry Meadows to an overnight adventure. Book a bell tent or a spot on our pitch-only campsite, located in the heart of Ferry Meadows. You’ll have access to all the essential camping facilities and will be ideally located to take advantage of all the exciting activities on offer at Nene Outdoors. Click here to find out more.

Complete a trail at Ferry Meadows: You’ll find a new trail up around Ferry Meadows every two weeks in the holidays. Pick up a trail sheet from the Visitor Centre for just £1, answer the questions as you walk around the Park and return to the Visitor Centre to claim your prize to grow at home. Find out more.

RYA Sailing Courses: Learn to sail this summer on a two-day youth course in the safe waters of Gunwade Lake at Nene Outdoors. Different levels are available depending on your experience, plus safety equipment, wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided. Book your places here.

Ride the miniature railway: All aboard the Ferry Meadows railway! Sit back and enjoy the ride as you pass through meadows, while taking in the view of Overton and Lynch Lakes. Discover the Visitor Centre, Gift & Farm Shop: Open daily from 9am to 6pm, the Visitor Centre in Ferry Meadows stocks everything you need for a day out in the Park. From picnic and BBQ essentials to summer games and activities, not forgetting refreshing drinks, snacks and ice creams. Our team are always on hand to share maps and answer any questions you may have about the Park.

Explore Longthorpe Tower - Weekends 10am-4.30pm: Delve into the fascinating history of this local gem, guided by our friendly and knowledgeable team of volunteers. Explore the remarkable medieval wall paintings and uncover centuries of stories. Book your tickets here.

Open Water Swimming - every Thursday 5.30-7pm: Come along and swim the 400m course on Gunwade Lake in these friendly sessions for all abilities. Register with NOWCA and get your first swim session free. Click here to find out more.


Family Fun Events

Indoor Archery – 23 July, 8 & 20 August Unleash your inner Robin Hood or Maid Marian! Our archery sessions are 45 minutes long and take place at Nene Outdoors. Sessions are £12 per person and suitable for ages 8 and over.  

Treasure Hunt – 25 July Explore Ferry Meadows using your super sleuthing skills to work out where the treasure is hidden! Suitable for children aged 4-7, it’s £5.50 per child. 

Orienteering Challenge – 25 July Learn essential skills to follow directions and find your way around a real orienteering route! Who will be the first to visit all the points? Suitable for children aged 8-13, it’s £5.50 per child.

Pop-Up Fun Park - 27 July to 11 August Join in the excitement at our Pop-Up Fun Park! Organised by our friends from the Ferry Meadows Miniature Railway, this summer fun zone will be packed with fairground attractions, bouncy inflatables and carnival games, open daily from 11am to 5pm.

Origami Flower Making & Soap Mixing - 27 July Come along to see Nene Nursery all in leaf and bloom and try your hand at Soap Mixing and making Origami Flowers. This is a free drop in session, so no need to book, and is suitable for families and visitors of all ages!

Community Litter Pick - 30 July Join our community litter pick to celebrate Love Parks Week and help us to keep the Park looking clean, green and tidy this summer! Register anytime between  10.30am – 12.30pm outside the Visitor Centre, where you can grab a litter picker and rubbish bag. 

Climbing Wall – 30 July, 15 & 29 August The climbing wall will be back at Nene Outdoors, with sessions running throughout the day. Great fun for both adults and children aged 4 and over, who will reach the top first? Sessions are £12 per person.  

Foodie Fridays – 2 & 16 August Bring all your friends and family to Ferry Meadows for an evening of live music and fantastic food from the finest local street food vendors! 5pm – 9pm. 

Longthorpe Tower in the 15th Century – 3 August The Whittlebury family resided at Longthorpe Tower in 1471 during a time of turmoil. The Wars of the Roses is underway and the Yorkist King Edward IV is launching a bid to get his throne back from the Lancastrians. Which side will Robert Whittlebury choose? Join costumed interpreters from the Medieval Sokemen to explore life in the 15th century. Suitable for all ages, tickets are £10 each.

Peterborough Arch Sculpture Art Workshop - 8 & 12 August Join us at the Visitor Centre for a free drop in arts and craft workshop inspired by Peterborough Arch sculpture. Suitable for all ages, open from 11am to 1pm. 

Paper Making with Petals & Brassica Planting - 10 August Join us to make paper from petals grown at Nene Nursery and plant some Brassicas to take home. This is a free drop in session, so no need to book, and is suitable for families and visitors of all ages!

Summer Nights at Ferry Meadows - 15-18 August Join us for weekend two of our incredible line-up of open-air cinema and theatre in the heart of Ferry Meadows! Catch Barbie and Bob Marley One Love at our outdoor cinema on Oak Meadow, free screenings of Tangled and Stop Making Sense on Coney Meadow, plus Chapterhouse Theatre Company present literary classics Pride & Prejudice and Little Women at our outdoor theatre.

Kokedama Making & Harvest Festival - 17 August Find out how to make Japanese Kokedamas and join in our Fruit & Vegetable Celebration at Nene Nursery.  This is a free drop in session, so no need to book, and is suitable for families and visitors of all ages! 

Summer Nights at Ferry Meadows - 24-25 August Join us the final weekend of our summer line-up of open-air cinema and theatre in the heart of Ferry Meadows! Catch outdoor screenings on the big screen of family-favourites Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, Trolls Band Together and The Wizard of Oz, plus timeless love story Pretty Woman, vampire classic The Lost Boys and Bollywood blockbuster Pathaan.


Wildlife Workshops

Pond Dipping - 24 July, 1, 14 & 20 August Come along to our FREE drop-in session at Lynch Lake between 12 and 3pm and spend some time pond dipping and identifying the fascinating creatures you find. This event is suitable for children aged 3 and over and is free to attend, however donations are always welcome!

Big Butterfly Count – 26 July Take part in this year’s Big Butterfly Count. Join ranger Sophie on a walk to spot some of the butterfly species that flutter through Ferry Meadows, using the Big Butterfly Count sheets to help you to identify what you see. Suitable for age 8 and over, it’s free to attend. 

Wildlife Boat Trip – 30 July & 27 August Join us on a specially extended wildlife boat trip around Overton Lake and along the River Nene. Our expert ranger will make sure you don’t miss a thing, and help you learn more about the wildlife you spot. This trip is suitable for age 12+, tickets are £15 each.

Buzzy Bees - 3 August Fun interactive activities all about bees! We'll be finding out everything there is to know about these brilliant creatures, how we can help save them and playing bee-themed games. This workshop is suitable for age 5+ and costs £5.50 to attend. 

Bug Hunt at Thorpe Meadows - 7 & 22 August Follow our hunt round Thorpe Meadows to find the bugs that live here and see how many different species we can find. This event is suitable for children aged two and over and costs £5.50 per child.  

Family Wildlife Boat Trip – 15 August Join us for a special wildlife boat trip around Overton Lake and along the River Nene, just for families! Our expert ranger will make sure you don’t miss a thing with our free spotter sheets, and will help you learn more about the wildlife you spot. Suitable for age 5+, tickets are £15 each.

Birdwatching for Families - 16 August Discover the remarkable birds that fly, feed and roost in Ferry Meadows. We'll show you how to identify the birds we spot and give you lots of handy tips on using binoculars. Suitable for age 5 and over, it’s £5.50 per child and £2.50 for accompanying adults. 

Owls and their Pellets - 21 August Follow a trail to learn more about the fascinating world of owls and the amazing things you can find by dissecting their pellets! Suitable for children aged 5 and over, it’s £5.50 per child.


Craft Workshops 

Children’s Fused Glass Art Workshop – 26 July Join June from Semperart to make your very own unique sun-catcher from coloured glass. Suitable for ages 7-12, it’s £15 per child. 

Teens Fused Glass Art Workshop – 26 July Join June from Semperart to learn all about fused glass art, then design and make your very own unique sun-catcher from coloured glass. Suitable for ages 13-17, it’s £20 each. 

Kumihimo Bracelets – 15 August Learn the ancient Japanese technique of Kumihimo and make your own beautifully intricate Kumihimo bracelet. Suitable for age 16 and over, it’s £18 each.  Please note, any under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. 


Learn to Sail

Youth RYA Sailing – Stage 1, 22 & 23 July or 5 & 6 August This two-day course takes you through the basics of dinghy sailing, getting you to a standard where you are able to enjoy the freedom of sailing. Suitable for 8-15 year olds, £190 each. 

Youth RYA Sailing – Stage 3, 20 & 21 August This two-day course will teach you improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. By the end of the course you will be able to launch and sail a dinghy on all points of sail or around a triangle in moderate conditions. Suitable for 8-15 year olds, £190 each.
