Monthly Photography Competition 2020

Background to the project

At the start of 2020 Nene Park announced a photography competition, set to run for the duration of 2020, with a new winner crowned each month.

All visitors, both young and old, were invited to send their best photographs taken in the Park for the month of entry to be considered. Photos could be from any part of Nene Park - Ferry Meadows, Thorpe Meadows, Orton Mere, Woodston Reach or the Rural Estate and could feature anything that catches the photographers' eye and shows off what a wonderful greenspace we all have to enjoy in Peterborough with our abundant wildlife, beautiful trees, historic landmarks, activities on the lakes and people enjoying the Park.

At the end of the year the winning entries were collated to create a Nene Park calendar, which was available to purchase from the Visitor Centre and Gift shop in aid of the work of Nene Park Trust. The winning and best entries from each month were also displayed in a photography competition in the heart of Ferry Meadows.

Peterborough Celebrates Festival

Taking place in Ferry Meadows across the weekend of 19th - 21st May, the Peterborough Celebrates Festival is a free to attend, family-orientated festival that will bring communities together and celebrate everything that defines our fantastic city.
Reedbed fish habitat creation

In January 2024, we are starting to create a new reedbed fish habitat in Gunwade Lake, using the huge mound of earth which was left over from the new car park excavations. This project is thanks to funding from the Valencia Communities Fund and The Environment Agency Fisheries Improvement Programme and is being carried out in partnership with the Environment Agency and the PDAA.
2024 Monthly Photography Competitions

Nene Park continues its monthly photography competitions for 2024, encouraging talented local photographers to share their photos taken in the Park.
Welcome area improvements

Between November 2023 and April 2024 we are making improvements to the Centre Point area of Ferry Meadows to improve the welcome experience for our visitors and upgrade the toilets, signage and seating.
Replacing Pontoon Bridge

After 34 years of daily use, the Pontoon Bridge in Ferry Meadows has reached the end of its life. Through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund through Your Community Greenspace project, we are able to replace it with a beautifully designed corten steel bridge in autumn 2023.
New Thorpe Meadows bridge

We will be replacing the old Thorpe Meadows bridge later this year thanks to generous funding from LCC Communities Foundation, Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund and Peterborough City Council.
Lakeside Activity Centre

Our proposals for a new activity centre based in the Lakeside area of the Park were approved by Peterborough City Council’s planning committee on 23 March 2021. Find out more about our plans.

New volunteer roles

As part of Your Community Greenspace we have set up some new volunteer roles to help new visitors access the Park, young people get more involved and to help run some of our new projects.
'Mini Rangers' - Our school in residence

As part of Your Community Greenspace we are keen to make the Park as accessible as possible to children and schools in Peterborough and so have set up 'Mini Rangers' - our School in Residence programme.

Ferry Meadows is the ideal place for a family day out and one of the largest country parks in the region. Situated less than three miles from Peterborough city centre, at the heart of Nene Park, its varied landscapes make it the favourite destination for thousands of visitors throughout the year.
Water Pay & Play Activities

At Nene Outdoors, we run a ‘Pay and Play’ scheme, providing visitors of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to enjoy the watersports we have on offer. Book for half hour sessions on line or for one hour, book two consecutive time slots, hire our equipment and use our facilities.
