Background to the project

Following the unprecedented success of the monthly photography competitions run in 2020, Nene Park was excited to announce the launch of a new competition for 2021.

This year the monthly competitions took on a new twist! Each month had a different theme, encouraging budding and experienced photographers to think outside the box, search for seasonal nature and wildlife and visit the different areas of our beautiful Park.

Each monthly winner received a £20 voucher to spend in the Visitor Centre & Gift Shop in Ferry Meadows as well as the accolade of their photograph being shared on our social media pages and featuring in the 2022 Nene Park fundraising calendar.

Nene Nursery Mocktails and Magic

Join us at our beautifully green and colourful community plant Nursery and have fun making your own mocktails, using fruit juices, tonics, herbs, botanicals and berries.

As part of Your Community Greenspace project we have launched FREE beginner running sessions at Thorpe Meadows led by volunteer run leaders who have completed the LiRF qualification.

Your Community Greenbus

A weekend shuttle bus service is launching at weekends over the summer holidays (20 July - 1 September) from Gunthorpe, Paston, New England and Millfield right into Ferry Meadows.
Creating a World Garden

We would like to create a World Garden that provides different communities in Peterborough a place to visit and enjoy, that represents their cultural heritage in some way. We hope to start creating this in 2025 with collaboration with Peterborough communities in 2024
Peterborough Celebrates Festival

Taking place in Ferry Meadows across the weekend of 18th-19th May, the Peterborough Celebrates Festival is a free to attend, family-friendly festival that will bring communities together and celebrate everything we love about our fantastic city.
Reedbed fish habitat creation

In January 2024, we are starting to create a new reedbed fish habitat in Gunwade Lake, using the huge mound of earth which was left over from the new car park excavations. This project is thanks to funding from the Valencia Communities Fund and The Environment Agency Fisheries Improvement Programme and is being carried out in partnership with the Environment Agency and the PDAA.
2024 Monthly Photography Competitions

Nene Park continues its monthly photography competitions for 2024, encouraging talented local photographers to share their photos taken in the Park.
Welcome area improvements

Between November 2023 and April 2024 we are making improvements to the Centre Point area of Ferry Meadows to improve the welcome experience for our visitors and upgrade the toilets, signage and seating.
Replacing Pontoon Bridge

After 34 years of daily use, the Pontoon Bridge in Ferry Meadows has reached the end of its life. Through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund through Your Community Greenspace project, we are able to replace it with a beautifully designed corten steel bridge in autumn 2023.
New Thorpe Meadows bridge

We will be replacing the old Thorpe Meadows bridge later this year thanks to generous funding from LCC Communities Foundation, Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund and Peterborough City Council.

Ferry Meadows

Ferry Meadows is the ideal place for a family day out and one of the largest country parks in the region. Situated less than three miles from Peterborough city centre, at the heart of Nene Park, its varied landscapes make it the favourite destination for thousands of visitors throughout the year.
Water Pay & Play Activities

At Nene Outdoors, we run a ‘Pay and Play’ scheme, providing visitors of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to enjoy the watersports we have on offer. Book for half hour sessions on line or for one hour, book two consecutive time slots, hire our equipment and use our facilities.

Take a boat trip

Enjoy a relaxing boat trip around Overton Lake on 'Wyndham', our new electrically powered passenger boat, and discover more about our new passenger cruises and private hire services.
Play areas

Nene Park is a great place to play. Games on the meadows, adventures in the woodlands and three great play areas within Ferry Meadows to cater for all ages.
