We are pleased to announce that after many months of construction, the new car park at Lakeside is now open for visitors.

We are sure visitors will agree that the new car park is a marked improvement on the existing 40-year-old Lakeside car park, which is no longer fit for purpose. We have created a new landscaped car park with a permeable surface and sustainable drainage, many more parking spaces than the old car park, including accessible spaces and lots of integrated tree and shrub planting, creating new habitats for wildlife.

Initial works, including archaeological excavations and associated ground works for the new car park began last summer and construction on the car park began in the autumn of 2022 with building contractors SDC.

From Thursday 6th April 2023, visitors are no longer able to park in the old Lakeside car park and the entrance to this area has now been cordoned off. The new car park operates a one way system to ensure safety and efficient traffic flow. Visitors enter the new car park opposite the boat yard and will exit by what was the entrance to the overflow car park. Signage will be in place to direct visitors in and around the car park.

The opening of this new car park now clears the way for further development of our exciting plans for the new Activity Centre on the site of the old car park. While we continue to develop these plans and investigate further funding opportunities, we are exploring options for additional temporary visitor facilities on the old car park site for the summer months. Keep your eye on our website and social media for updates on our plans.
