Living History Re-Enactment Weekend – 29th and 30th April

90-minute tours throughout the weekend, 10am - 3.30pm

Cost: £8 per person.

The Medieval Sokemen Living History Group will be bringing their costumes, props and expert knowledge of this historical period to Longthorpe Tower to delight and inspire visitors of all ages and levels of interest. Not only will you experience the stunning medieval wall paintings that Longthorpe Tower is famous for, but you will get a flavour of life as it would have been in the 15th century, when the manor house was occupied by the Whittlebury Family.

Experienced costumed interpreters will share the remarkable story of the house and its décor and explain about daily life in the 1400s. Discover the food, clothing, medicine, arms and armour and meet costumed characters such as the Lady of the Manor, a monk, a barber-surgeon and soldiers. An artist will be demonstrating medieval painting techniques and period food and spices will be on display to help create a real snapshot of daily life during this period.

Immersive History Event: Dressing for Court - Saturday 17th June

2-hour tours throughout the day, 10am-2.30pm

Cost: £10

Immersive History Event: Dressing for Battle - Saturday 16th September

2-hour tours throughout the day, 10am-2.30pm

Over a two hour tour, in a smaller group, visitors will be able to discover in more detail about medieval costume and even try a few items of clothing on if they wish! Our Dressing for Court day will reveal the many layers of medieval ladies’ dress from the hose to the hennin, while our Dressing for Battle day will focus on medieval armour and arms. These events will also include detailed interpretation of the famous painted chamber of Longthorpe Tower and wider information on daily medieval life including food, medicine and occupations. As the groups for these events will be smaller, there will be ample time for discussion and questions with our expert guides. Booking coming soon.
