Breach in the riverbank at Water Newton

Nene Park Trust have a contractor lined up to undertake the necessary work to repair the riverbank but we are waiting for a permit from the Environment Agency before any work can begin. We hope to get the riverbank and footpath repaired as soon as possible.

Share Farming Scheme

The share farming agreement between Nene Park Trust and our new share farmers (Craig and Ryan Baxter) is due to be signed this week. All being well, there should be Lleyn sheep on the land at Normangate fields by next week. This will hopefully be followed by native breed cattle on the land at Water Newton in the spring. We ask that the public take care when entering fields with livestock, to please keep dogs on leads and close any gates behind them.

Signage and Waymarking

Maps and information boards have now been installed at key entrance points to the Trust’s Rural Estate to help improve access. New ‘Rural Estate Park Code’ signs and livestock signs will also be installed soon to ensure that people are enjoying the countryside in a respectful and considerate way. Small waymarking discs will also be installed in key locations to help guide people around the path network.

Woodlands

Our groundsman Scott continues to do a good job  in improving the sports pitches at Woodlands. Unfortunately Covid restrictions have put a hold to matches for now. The Trust is looking at installing permanent facilities to replace the portacabins. We are currently in the process of undertaking desk research and carrying out visits to similar sites, as well as finalising a brief for architects. Once we have some designs we will share them with relevant parties. 

Splash Lane Car Park

Improvement works have now begun. The council have resurfaced the track leading to the car park and have kindly undertaken some surface improvements to the car park itself. We are planning to tidy up the hedge, install some logs around the edge of the car park and sow some wildflower seed to try and improve the aesthetics of the area as well as to try and help reduce antisocial behaviour.
