Forest School & Alternative Provision
The education team at Nene Park Trust are delighted to share a range of exciting outdoor learning opportunities at our dedicated Forest School site in Ferry Meadows. We’re proud to offer courses and experiences that support schools, including alternative provision, helping every child to learn, explore and grow outdoors.
Forest School Courses
Give children the chance to return again and again to the same beautiful woodland site, building confidence and a real connection with nature. Each session is packed with hands-on fun, and our friendly team will work with you to create a programme shaped around the needs and interests of your children. Activities might include making things from natural materials, safely using hand tools, enjoying cosy campfires, building dens and discovering the plants and animals that call the site home.
Courses are booked in blocks of 6 sessions. Each session lasts 2 hours and usually runs weekly or fortnightly, giving children time to explore, learn and grow outdoors
Forest School Taster Days
A full day of Forest School fun, perfect for sparking curiosity and adventure! Children will enjoy a wide range of hands-on activities, which may include safely using tools and cooking over the fire. It’s a brilliant way to introduce children to Forest School for the first time, or to give them the chance to try out activities that aren’t possible at your own school site.
Alternative Provision
Our alternative provision offers a supportive outdoor learning environment for young people who may be struggling in mainstream education, including those at risk of exclusion, experiencing anxiety or mental health challenges, or with additional needs. Sessions at our dedicated site in Ferry Meadows are tailored to meet the needs of your child or group, and can include hands-on activities such as fire lighting, shelter building, campfire cooking and nature-based activities, helping students build confidence, resilience and social skills. As well as school referrals, we can also offer sessions for young people educated outside of school, including those learning at home with local authority funding. These can be delivered on a 1:1 basis with a supporting adult present, through a neuro-affirming, child-led approach.
