Sponsorship from Savills funds school visits

Generous sponsorship funding from Savills Peterborough, land and property agent, means that we can continue to offer funded visits to the Park to a local school from September this year.

For the last five years, Nene Park Trust has run a School in Residence programme, thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the five-year Your Community Greenspace project. Each year, a local Peterborough primary school has benefited from a year of funded visits to the Park and visits from our education team back to the school. Children have taken part in outdoor activities, all designed to give them access to and understanding of nature, wildlife, looking after green spaces, and sustainability. They have also had support to improve the green space available in their own school grounds. The programme has funded coach travel, outdoor all-weather clothing equipment needed and building planters for the school grounds.

The impact of this scheme has been amazing. Over the last five years, 174 primary aged children in Peterborough have benefited from these funded visits to Ferry Meadows. One school shared that the children involved have benefited so much from the scheme saying that, “Many children had not been to Ferry Meadows before and had thrived on the opportunities the programme had given them. They loved learning about nature and also learned a lot about themselves.”

Now that Your Community Greenspace project is coming to an end, we are so pleased that Savills has stepped up to sponsor another local primary school for the next academic year and are pleased to announce that the chosen school is Leighton Primary School in Peterborough. Over the 2026-27 academic year, 30 year 3 pupils will be coming to Ferry Meadows for four visits and will receive three visits back to the school from our Education Team, working with the school to improve their available greenspace with items and resources that may include planters and wildlife habitat development, among other elements.
