Get creative with our Giving Stars

03/12/25 – Carina Clark, Fundraising Administrator

The festive period is known as a time of giving.  At Nene Park Trust we are always hugely appreciative of our donors, no matter the time of year or how big or small the donation may be.

During our Winter Festival each year, we are excited to launch our ‘Stars’ activity in the Visitor Centre, where you can decorate a star to be hung on display, for a donation amount of your choice.

This year, we decided to name them our ‘Giving Stars’ to truly reflect the sentiment behind them. The donations we receive go towards supporting the upkeep of our greenspaces, protecting the wildlife and putting on wonderful activities in the Park for all communities to enjoy.

The launch of our Giving Stars got me thinking about what inspires people to decorate the star in the way they do. I decided to pop down to the Visitor Centre to see the stars that have been made so far. I was so impressed by the creativity on display already!

I love the fact that each star is wonderfully unique. Some people have been inspired by Christmas and have decorated them with Christmas trees and festive bells. Others are completely different with an environmental theme and even a space theme!

Are they little frogs I spot amongst the aliens on the moon? Could they be a nod to the wildlife in our park? Could the Earth symbolise the need to protect our green and blue spaces? I don’t know, but however you choose to interpret them, I love that each one has been created with giving in mind. Regardless of the inspiration behind each individual star, every person who chooses to decorate one and make a donation to Nene Park Trust will allow us to continue to develop sustainable greenspaces which will be here for many years to come, for all to enjoy.

The stars all hang on display at our Winter Festival creating a beautiful wall of colour; it’s quite a sight to see. To me, that wall represents just how many wonderful people care about our Park and our community, and that feeling is even more special than the display itself.

If you visit Ferry Meadows before the Winter Festival finishes, remember to visit the wall of hanging stars and pop into the Visitor Centre if you’d like to add one of your own. Your donations make a huge difference and your support really does mean the world. Thank you!
