The weather in 2025 has been unusual with very long dry spells followed by short very wet spells, which have all contributed to a busy year at Woodlands.

We’ve had a good innings!

We have managed to increase the amount of cricket matches played this year. After taking 94 bookings we had 15 cancellations but only 8 of these were due to weather conditions, which is a big improvement on last year. Hopefully next year we can reach an amazing 100 bookings. We’re also bowled over to share that we won the Rutland and District league Division 2 Pitch of the Year! 

All of the autumn renovations have been carried out now and the cricket pitch grass is growing nicely ready for next year.

What about football?

The football pitches are also doing well having recovered from the dry spells. Last year saw more than 170 matches played and this year we’re already getting busy.

The verti draining will be done shortly which should improve the drainage through the winter and encourage better root growth which will help the pitches during any dry spells next year.

It has been a really good year over at Woodlands and my aim is to keep improving the pitches and increase bookings year on year.
