Little has been written about the Anglo Saxon Nene valley but this talk by Dr Stephen Upex, which also forms the basis for a book due to be published this year, will cover the original settlers, why they came to the area and how they took over from the intensive Roman occupation of an earlier period.
Burial sites, the formation of local villages, the development of parishes and parish churches and the archaeological evidence will all be covered along with comments on how modern scientific techniques are allowing us to re-interpret this poorly understood period of landscape development. The talk will be illustrated with images from local excavations and sites.
Of course there will time for any of your questions. Stephen will also bring a selection of his books about Romans in the Nene Valley for you to purchase. (Please bring cash)
