Experience Longthorpe Tower by candlelight and uncover the extraordinary story of this historic building on a guided tour brought vividly to life by costumed characters from across its past – and beyond. Your journey begins 2,000 years ago with a Roman soldier from the nearby fort, setting the scene for centuries of history to follow.

Meet a member of the Thorpe family who built the Tower and commissioned its remarkable wall paintings, followed by a Whittlebury family member from the turbulent 15th century, when fortunes and loyalties were tested. Encounter characters from the Tudor period, when the paintings were concealed, the Civil War era during the construction of nearby Thorpe Hall, and finally a serviceman from the Second World War, when the long-forgotten paintings were rediscovered. Together, they bring the Tower’s rich and layered history vividly to life.

Hosted by the Medieval Sokemen Living History Group.
