Take a trip in our electrically-powered passenger boat!

Wyndham, Nene Park’s electrically powered passenger boat, was built by Norfolk boat builders Landamores in 2020, and provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy a unique view of the lakes and the River Nene around Ferry Meadows.

Powered by an electric motor, the boat is near silent when running and has minimal impact on the wildlife and environment of our beautiful country park.

The boat has been named ‘Wyndham’, after Wyndham Thomas, the chief architect of Ferry Meadows in the 1970s, a fitting tribute to the amazing work he did to lay the foundations for the Park we see today.

To ensure this tranquil experience is as accessible as possible, the boat has a gently sloping boarding ramp and a hydraulic lift, enabling up to two wheelchair users on board at any time.

Wildlife Boat Trips

With a near-silent motor, Wyndham is the ideal craft for wildlife spotting. Join us on a cruise along the River Nene where swans, geese and other water fowl will glide alongside the boat with you. Wildlife highlights may also include herons, kingfishers and the elusive otter! Trips last around 1 hour 30 minutes and our knowledgeable team will make sure you don’t miss a thing, whilst helping you learn more about the wildlife you observe.

We are also running regular family wildlife boat trips and history boat trips this year. To view upcoming dates, please click here.

More about Wyndham

Our electrically-powered boat for the Park replaces the previously diesel-powered boat that used to provide passenger trips around Overton Lake at Ferry Meadows. The batteries used to power the new boat will be charged using electricity provided through a green energy tariff, as part of the Trust’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and respond to a climate emergency.

Future plans for the boat include the possibility of a taxi service to different parts of the Park. The Trust also hopes to install a solar array to help charge the boat, creating a truly sustainable long-term energy source.

The boat was made in 2020 by Norfolk boat builders Landamores, who have been building boats in Wroxham and Hoveton since 1923. The boat is an Edwardian styled Frolic 31 launch, made by combining new and traditional manufacturing methods and the highest quality of materials and workmanship.
