What does charity mean to you?

When was the last time you donated to a charity?

How did it make you feel?

We live in a world with many opportunities for donations, and quite often we donate to a charity without even realising.

You may be sponsoring your friend on a run/walk, purchasing a charity item from a shop or dropping your loose change into a pot at a till (pre-Covid times) yet not quite realising the impact you are having.

But what if you did realise the impact you were having and began to consciously decide where to give you money, even the loose change?

‘Every Little Helps’ has been Tesco’s slogan since 1993 and it is as relevant now as ever. There is no denying that small things add up to make a big difference – the washing pile which ignored turns into a much bigger task; that extra drip of water that causes the cup to overflow; that single pound coin to a charity which helps them hit their target and lets them purchase the necessary equipment for a crucial project.

"No one has ever become poor by giving" Anne Frank

The power you have as an individual should not be underestimated, but instead acknowledged and taken advantage of.

The act of charity isn’t just about money. Donations can be anything; items, time, feedback, skills, spreading the word. It is about giving within your means. What is the most valuable thing you can give to a charity?

"Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference" Kathy Calvin

We at Nene Park Trust value every donation. Each one is a huge support to the work we do and goes directly into ensuring we continue serving the Peterborough community by providing greenspace for all to benefit from.

A donation not only allows us to continue and develop the work we do but also helps us to build a relationship with the people we are helping – YOU. When you give, you become a part of the Trust's journey, a reason we are still here and we want you to take pride in that.

The act of giving, of any kind, is known as one of the greatest acts of kindness. See what can happen when you take the time to think about how you can make a difference.

"The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention" Oscar Wilde
